Funding Opportunities
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 appropriated $1.1B for CER over two years. Of this amount, $300M will be distributed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), $400M by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the remaining $400M by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). For the time being, the AHRQ will focus on the same 14 priority conditions designated earlier by the HHS Secretary under the Medicare Modernization Act. Announcements
- New Methods in Statistical Methodology to decrease potential bias and confounding in Comparative Effectiveness Research — Mark van der Laan, Professor of Biostatistics at UC Berkeley, developed these methods that combine the application of super learning (SL) and targeted maximum likelihood estimation (TMLE). He is looking to apply these methods by partnering with CER researchers and grant applicants with large clinical databases. Learn more.

A Steering Committee charged with coordinating and supporting Comparative Effectiveness Research (CER) at UCSF will meet bi-monthly and may organize a meeting of all faculty interested in CER late fall 2009.
