  • Who We Are

This service is designed to help researchers at UCSF and affiliated institutions to enroll research participants into UCSF clinical studies.

The following services are provided by experienced recruitment specialists and are available on a recharge basis. The first hour of consultation is free.

Recruitment Analysis & Planning

  • Development of robust recruitment plans including suggested strategies, timelines and costs
  • Monthly consultation to support researchers during implementation phase of recruitment plan

Cohort Identification & Direct Mail Recruitment

  • Identification of cohorts to recruit from inpatient electronic medical records (Epic and/or THREDS)
  • Assistance in applying for CHR approval of this recruitment method
  • Coordination of data extraction into secure MyResearch environment
  • Printing and mailing of direct mail recruitment letters to the cohort

Research Participant Registry

The registry is a public, nonclinical database that will provide researchers with a pool of potential participants interested in volunteering as research participants. Potential participants can register online to be contacted for future clinical studies.

Recruitment Materials Toolkit – COMING SOON

A series of free, professionally designed recruitment material templates is available. Pay only for print costs when you customize, order and print directly from UCSF Documents, Media & Mail.

Materials include:

  • Posters: To increase awareness of a study among clinic patients and the public.
  • Postcards: To mail information about a study directly to potential research participants.
  • Brochures: To explain the goals and expectations of participating in a study.

  • Nariman Nasser, Director
    10+ years specializing in clinical research project and portfolio management. Previous bench researcher with extensive marketing and technology experience.
  • Charles Wienbar, Program Manager
    12 years experience managing clinical trials. Prior experience includes production of documentary and educational video programming.
  • Elia Gonzales, Medical/Technical Writer
    20+ years editing, writing guidelines, and providing technical documentation to support clinical and scientific research.
  • Jocel Dumlao, Technical Recruitment Specialist
    Information Technologist supporting analytical research and clinical science for more than 10 years.
  • Tracy Strickroth, Marketing & Outreach Manager
    Specializes in messaging and branding of clinical research studies to support participant recruitment. Previous experience includes market research and community outreach related to health and social issues within non-profit, academic, and patient advocacy organizations.
